Buying a car from China: a step-by-step checklist with documents
What to decide before the contract, the eight stages an order goes through, which document closes each one, and what to check when you collect the car.

Buying a car from China usually takes one to two months, and each stage produces its own document. Knowing in advance what should happen and when makes the process predictable. Below is a checklist from choosing the car to registering it.
Before the contract
- Work out your turnkey budget in the calculator: price in China, delivery, customs and commission for your city.
- Choose a car from the catalog or send a request for a custom order.
- Decide whether you want an extended inspection before purchase — a separate option for ₽20,700.
- Choose your city and delivery method: lead time and cost depend on them.
- Have your ID or company documents ready for the contract.
After you send a request you get a request number starting with LA. The order number in the format LO-2026-0042 is sent by your manager after the contract is signed — that is the number tracking works with.
The eight stages of an order

Why these documents matter. The export declaration confirms that the car left China legally. The bill of lading or consignment note is the carrier’s document confirming it has accepted the car for transport. The customs declaration confirms that the import was cleared and the payments made; without it the car cannot be registered.
How to follow your order
Enter your order number on the tracking page. It shows completed stages with dates, the current stage and planned dates for the next ones. If anything raises a question, you can message your manager right from there — the order number is filled into the message for you.
If you enter a request number starting with LA by mistake, the page will tell you it is a request number and that the order number arrives after the contract is signed.
What to check on collection
- The VIN on the body matches the documents.
- The trim matches the contract and the inspection photo report.
- All keys are there, and for an electric car or hybrid, the charging cable.
- There is no new damage compared with the photos taken before dispatch.
- You have received the full document package, and the originals are kept safe.
