How to read trim names: Pro, Max, Ultra and what lies behind them

Numbers in the name, Pro and Max, Flagship and Performance — how to tell from a trim name what you get, and where the price gap is really worth it.

Chinese cars rarely use the letter codes for trims that many buyers are used to. Instead there are words and numbers: Pro, Max, Ultra, 580, 755, Flagship, Performance. They are easy to decode once you know a few rules. Here is how to read such names and what to check before paying extra for a higher version.

What the words mean

  • Pro, Max, Ultra — an equipment ladder used by many brands, from the simpler version to the richest. Li Auto, for example, builds the L7 as Pro and Max, and the MEGA in our catalog is an Ultra.
  • Flagship — the best-equipped version of a model. For the Geely Monjaro it is the 2.0T AWD Flagship.
  • Performance — the dual-motor version with maximum power, like the BYD Seal Performance AWD.
  • Long Range — the version with the largest battery and the longest range.

What the numbers mean

Numbers in a name usually refer to the battery or the range. The XPeng G6 580 Pro and G6 755 Long Range carry their range on the Chinese CLTC cycle: 580 and 755 km. The BYD Dolphin Freedom 60.5 kWh and the Zeekr 001 WE 100 kWh state battery capacity. And on the BYD Song Plus DM-i 51 km and 110 km hybrids the figure is the range on electricity alone.

Examples from our catalog

Our catalog has several models in two versions at once. Their prices differ not only because of the trim — the cars also differ in year and mileage — but they show clearly what the extra money buys.

ModelVersionsWhat the higher one adds
BYD SealPremium RWD → Performance AWDa second motor, 390 kW instead of 230, ventilated seats, head-up display
Geely Monjaro2.0T 2WD → 2.0T AWD Flagshipall-wheel drive, lane keeping, ventilated seats, heated wheel, head-up display, wireless charging
XPeng G6580 Pro → 755 Long Range87.5 kWh battery instead of 66, 755 km of range, panoramic roof
Li L7Pro → Maxheated steering wheel and head-up display

The difference varies: sometimes the higher version changes the car itself — drivetrain, power, battery — and sometimes it only adds a couple of convenience features. The Li L7 Pro and Max have the same power and battery and differ in equipment.

How to choose a version

  1. Decide what matters to you technically: all-wheel drive, range, power.
  2. Check which version has it — by the specifications, not by the name.
  3. Compare the equipment lists and decide whether you need the higher version’s features.
  4. Price both versions turnkey to your city: customs and delivery change the gap, and turnkey it can differ from the gap in China.

If the version you want is not in the catalog, send a sourcing request — we will find a car in the right trim and show you in advance what it includes.
